Following the launch of the WASP the work is ongoing to, on the one
hand, complete the formal registration of the party and, on the other,
sink its roots and establish its structures across South Africa.
The launch of the Workers & Socialist Party was the direct outcome of
the struggles of the mineworkers of South Africa throughout the course
of last year.
In 1996, hardly 2 years after the ANC was elected, the leadership,
having long since buried the Freedom Charter, abandoned the
Reconstruction and Development Programme, replacing it with the
neo-liberal capitalist Growth, Employment and Redistribution Programme.
