Kazakhstan: Socialist MEP “Persona non-grata”

Paul Murphy speaks in European Parliament against repression in Kazakhstan

Paul Murphy, Socialist Party MEP, recently visited Kazakhstan to show solidarity with, and support the struggle of Kazakh oil workers, who have been on strike for four months. These heroic workers have faced severe repression in their struggle for basic conditions. (See previous articles on socialistworld.net)

In response to his visit, the Government of Kazakhstan has outrageously accused Paul Murphy MEP of breaking Kazakh criminal law by "creating social discord". In reality, it is the Government of Kazakhstan and the oil capitalists who are "creating social discord" through their severe repression of workers, who are trying to defend their living standards and their democratic rights. Below we publish a video of Paul Murphy MEP’s response in the European Parliament. Socialistworld.net
