Cosawu union won application to represent about 700 workers
4900 workers were dismissed by platinum mine operator Murray and Roberts at Kroondal, Rustenburg in 2009 for participating in a strike which was declared illegal when their then National Union of Mine workers (NUM) (mis)leaders made a deal with the bosses behind their backs. On February 14, when the unfair dismissal trial eventually got underway, their new union Cosawu, which works closely with the Democratic Socialist Movement, was allowed to join the court case as the representative of about 700 workers. See below a video of the protest which took place outside the court.
