Socialist industrial policy argued for in parilament by Paul Murphy, Ruth Coppinger and Mick Barry
The Irish parliament (Dail) yesterday held a special debate on the Apple tax scandal – in which the Irish government is opposing the payment to itself of €13 billion, evaded in corporation tax payments by the Apple multinational. The Socialist Party’s (CWI in Ireland) 3 Anti Austerity Alliance TDs (members of parliament), Paul Murphy, Ruth Coppinger and Mick Barry, all took to the floor to denounce this and argue clearly for a socialist industrial policy. They argue for an alternative of socialist, public democratic ownership of industry to the rule of the multinationals and tax haven policies.
