This week marks the 50th anniversary of the ‘carnation’ Portuguese revolution.
A half-century of brutal right-wing dictatorship rule was swept aside in a day. The revolution started at 12.25 am, on Thursday 25 April 1974, when the rebel song, Grandola Vila Morena, played on the radio. By early evening, the end of dictatorship was announced.
