“I can’t say anything,” says outspoken artist; protests against state repression must continue
The Chinese artist, Ai Weiwei, was released this week after three month’s detention by the regime. He has told reporters that he is on bail and not supposed to talk about anything. He is barred from leaving Beijing for one year and told a reporter, “I think it’s like a vacation. It’s not anything you can choose. You either stay out or you go back, and I want to stay out”. The British Independent’, in a vast underestimate of the numbers, refers to the ‘other’ 1,426 individuals “known to be languishing in Chinese jails for political or religious reasons”.
