ONLY WEEKS after a report showed how long-term collusion between Britain’s security forces and loyalist paramilitary groups in Northern Ireland had led to murders such as that of Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane, more evidence of state terrorism is coming out.
Alfredo Scappaticci has been identified as an IRA double agent who is alleged to have provided the military forces’ intelligence with valuable information. Ironically, Scappaticci’s role within the IRA as a security department member gave him responsibility for dealing with informers.
Army intelligence officers may have looked the other way when "investigating" up to 40 murders in order to protect the identity of their own prime informer.
These state terrorists and defenders of terror are the same armed forces who are supposedly fighting a ’war on terrorism’ and bringing ’democracy’ to Iraq.
In Northern Ireland, while the trade unions and other working-class organisations have had to fight repeatedly to stop any return to sectarian killings, the Army have seemingly been involved in hiding killers and sectarian thugs.
That’s why the Socialist Party are fighting for a socialist solution for the problems of Northern Ireland based on the common interests of working-class people.
